Gimp??

I have been having a lot of problems lately with my current version of Photoshop. Since it's such an expensive program I was considering GIMP but don't know much about it, I was always told it is almost exactly like PS.... Does anyone have any experience with it that could help me out?

It's not exactly like photoshop by a longshot, but from what I understand its the next best thing if you don't have money to spend. It's free, I would just download it and see how it works for you.

It is free and he's right its not exactly like photoshop at all. Gimp takes some time to learn just like photoshop did for me. If you have the time to learn Gimp then by all means its a great tool to use. Lots of people use it and like it, but its quite a bit different. I've tried it out and just do not have a few months it would take to master it. I've stuck with photoshop even though I'm on linux and use it through wine. Gimp comes standard with linux too!

Gimp is the best from free graphics aplications but only for amatours.

i used gimp for about a year before getting photoshop, and it is very effective for a free program. it works pretty well when it comes to making gifs, but other than that i would still go with photoshop or illustrator!

GIMP rocks but if you take the desing as a serious job maybe GIMP is not for you, but you can learn a lot playing around with it. Some features are only in GIMP (I think ¿?) like GIMP Math Map to create awesome effects, fractals and more.

Also with GIMP Shop you can dress GIMP like Photoshop.

I used GIMP for awhile before getting photoshop as well; It is a fairly good program, and I thought it was the bees knees when I didn't have the money to buy photoshop.

But it lacks a lot of the usability of photoshop; I'm not sure if it's still set up the same way, but it opens up a bunch of windows for different things, which I find highly annoying.

yeah it is still set up like that. that is why I could never get into it I hate the "let's have 8 windows open for one task" thing.

Ah okay then!! Yeah I really disliked having the layers window, tools window, work window, and a gazillion other things open just to edit one image. My start bar is already crowded enough without all that junk!
