Old  What language is the best to learn?

At the end of the day we all do this to make our living. What do you think is the best language to learn in terms of job suitability, demand and salary?

But are companies looking for that? I mean, is it in demand and does it pay well? Does anyone know much about this?

what is in great demand right at the minute is XHTML and CSS , also with these you should be able to optimize a site for viewing on a PDA/Mobile Phone, lots of companies are preparing for increase use of PDA's and are looking for this service

If you are looking into a stable job in term of coding, then you're looking at C, C++, VB, VB.NET, and the sorta like.

Languages like PHP and ASP are mostly related to web, you don't make as much money as you would with C, C++, VB, and VB.NET!!

If you look on professional job searching big companies actually want ASP.NET and C++ developers, Php is more of a hobbiers code rather then professional, companies want Microsoft all the way.
