Old  How to promote my forum?

Does anyone have any tips on how to populate a forum with members? I am specifically looking to get those with a web-design / development interest to sign up.

As some of you may have noticed I have bought ad space on TFL, I thought that might be a good start to getting the forum known.

I am really keen to make Style:Reboot a popular place, so I would like to do it in the right way.

no offense as much as tfl is nice, places like earnersforum and a bit larger of an activity log would be better to buy ads at.

Advertise on some sites that relate to the web design/development you are looking for.

Some sites:

http://TalkFreelance.com
http://ClanTemplates.com
sites that have to do with web design, also directories & and lifetime link sites also SEO. There are many things you can do to advertise.

What's your target audience?

Start up freelancers/kids?
TF and Clantemplates are places to advertise on.

Clantemplates is definitely home to a lot of immature kids and riffraff, a more professional site would be a better option.

You just proved my statement better more then I could have wished by that comment. If you want proof at how TF is mainly beginners/kids look at the value of sites on sale here I aren't "dissing" but it's the truth.

Techno, do you have any idea of the average age of members here? It's not 12-14, I'll tell you that much.

VividWire, if you've got the cash then banner advertising on forums matching your market won't hurt. Getting the word out, and getting people talking about it is however probably your most worthwhile target -- viral marketing. Also, I'm sure making topics like this (if you include the URL to the site!) won't hurt at all.
