God... they were free then... and imagine some of the numbers that could be put up for some of those domains. I bet back then people didn't even know what they were doing... and then sell them now for like 999,999,999,999,999,999 % profit,, lol.
I heard a while back, a few registrars charged $100+ USD for a .com... is that true?

In response to Robs question. There are many sources to find out about the history of the internet. A few years ago, I read a book about Bill Gates. It had the complete background of his childhood, the creation and daily works of Microsoft, and 150+ pages on how the internet evolved. There's a lot of facts that people don't know about it. I'll research the name of the book if anyone is interested in reading it.

Yep, domain names were at one point well into $xxx a name from original registrars like Network Solutions and Bulkregister.
Some of the big priced domain names were not bought for MANY years...
I know of at least 3 people who almost bought a couple of top quality names but either kept postponing it or baulked at the $250 price.
These were names like business.com , PC.com, etc.
It took years for the 2 letter names to go. They are worth an average of about $50,000 now !! $15000 for 2 crappy letters to $250,000+ for 2 top letters.
Oh, me... No, I missed the boat.. Too young, too late, too bad.
