Old  How do you get clients

I'm just wondering what are some methods you use for getting clients. I've been trying getafreelancer.com, but that seems to be kind of tough to get noticed, especially since i'm starting off. If anyone could help me. I'm not asking for specific resources or anything, just genral tips and so forth.

Most of the jobs I've gotten are from here or just MSN (hired by people that go here on my MSN list). I also get a few referrals from time to time.

yeah i guess referrals would be after i get some work done. I'm still looking for my first job. I guess I should check out the other parts of this forum. Do you find people are more hesitant to hire someone like me, with few projects to show? And how do you suggest I get around that?

With no reputation you have to start cheap, once you have 2 or 3 references you can start to charge more.

Try locally. Walk around to some of the businesses and ask.

I have thought about that. would being a 17 year old make them less likely to trust me?

Mine personally come from forums, MSN, referrals, and search engines.
