ONE 3.0GHz Dual-Core AMD Opteron $1,500 (only one of these beats out Two of intel's xeons lol. This chip is proven to run faster than intel's chips)
4GB RAM Crucial Ballistix (very good RAM) $100
WD 500GB hard drive $100
Hey we got money to spare why not splurge on graphics. BFG Tech GeForce 9800 GX2 Video Card 1GB $525
AOC Monitor Piano Black Finish 22" 5ms Widescreen $200
ASUS 20X DVD±R DVD Burner with LightScribe Black $35

A great config my friend made up after seeing that the Mac Pro can cost you up to 5k if you want graphics, good display (Apple Cinema HD), and stuff.

Bullshi-t.
I bet that CPU couldn't even outperform a default Q6600, nevermind an xeon harpertown or cloverfield.

Look for yourself: www.apple.com
Anyhow, I would suggest going to a Best Buy or Apple store to check out either type of system!

The problem for me when getting a Mac was that exact thing (no real support for games, but still playable for some), but I soon realized that it would become cheaper if I stuck to a PS3 or an Xbox, seeing as the hardware is a set price and the games are lag free. I find it easier to play on a bigger screen as well.
So many choices now a days!

Hahahahahahahahahahhaa
I can't stop laughing at how much of a joke that setup is.
The Opteron is barely faster than a P4 (and has the same technology).
A 9800GX2 is about the world's biggest rip off at this time. You can buy Gt 280 for less than that.
The ballistix ram is the budget ram Crucial make. You could buy on special for $10 per 1gb not so long ago.
And the AOC monitor for $200. Well thats means it ain't gonna be up to standards.
Seriously the only good choice in that set up is the HD.

well it's not the same at all
if you buy it because you want to play the last games buy an alien one , but if it's a long term investment , and that you don't care about the very last games you should definitely go for an imac (moreover mac keep their value over the time and you'll sell it for a good prices while your alien pc will have lost a LOT more value )

If your going to go windows, why alienware? Just build your own and save tons.
Go mac? Thats personal preference. For your uses, there is not one task one can do that the other can't.
