Old  What are everyone's thoughts on the .PRO TLD?

.PRO is a top level domain, owned by RegistryPro, owned by Hostway (as far as I know). It was/is intended for professional use, and requires anyone that registers one or more for themselves to provide professional or corporate documentation in order to activate and retain the names.

Because of the exclusivity, I have noticed an abundance of available keywords for this extension. In fact, because of the quality of keywords available, I couldn't help but snatch a few up myself.

Regardless, this topic was created to get your opinion on it.

If you already own one (or some) yourself, please feel free to share them. If you don't own any, your two cents are still very much appreciated.

Given the requirements I don't see myself ever being able to register one.. Although the first that came to mind [as a joke] was mlg.pro. /gamingfunnie

Not necessarily. If you are genuinely interested, you can register a sole proprietorship at your local courthouse for $20, call it iCupcake.org, and RegistryPro would find that sufficient.

It's 2010. Anyone can be a "professional" now, lol.

Either I'm just tired (it's 5am) but I swear I read into it as requiring more than just say an SoleP/LLC/Corp. :3

That's a good idea.

I remember someone selling a .pro sometime back. In this case would the buyer need to be a professional of some kind to acquire it?

Professional or business license is all that is required. As stated before, many people have registered .PROs successfully with $20 sole proprietorships.

When asked what kind of professional you are, simply say "Domainer" or "Developer."
