Old  Should we code for Opera9.27 and lower?

According to the statistics of W3Schools, there are currently 1.5% users use Opera.

I assume that almost all of these 1.5% users are web designers or people who care about update, and they surely will update their Opera once the newest version is released.

Therefore we don't have to code for Opera9.27 and lower now, right?

You really don't, but it shouldn't be hard anyway. If it works in all of the other browsers, Opera 9.27- won't be a problem. Though it's a low percentage, you might as well.

That reminds me though, I should probably update my Opera. I'm still using 9.23.

Edit: Damn. New Opera looks good.

yeah, for anything other then IE and maybe Safari you can expect the users to update to the latest version, as 99% of the time they are net savvy people and will update to the latest versions.

I base this on the fact that they have chosen to use a different browser rather then the one pre-installed on the system.

Yes, this is a reasonable inference. Thank you.

I wouldn't, but I mean it's always nicer to make things work for EVERYTHING (I have yet to accomplish this goal! )

I would say not to. I always assume that user's of Opera, Konqueror, SeaMonkey, etc... are pretty savvy and will upgrade as soon as they can. Also, just as a general thought, I think we will eventually see a level of conformance to the W3C specs so that we can stop hacking and coding for every separate browser version (I'm looking at you IE6).

I think it's important to code cross-browser. If only 1% of your users use opera, and you have 100 visitors per day, that's one visitor every day that your inconveniencing by providing for example div positioning that doesn't work in opera the same it would in firefox. That's 365 times a year that someone gets disappointed when they view your site before even looking at the content. 1% doesn't seem like much, but over a large period of time it adds up.
