I first started with HTML back in 1999. I ran a tournament on an online game then and I was in need of a website, so I opened up a Geocities account. After successfully completing a website using that, I started looking at the source code and exploring what each of the codes did.

After doing that, I ran accross W3Schools through google one day and went through the various tutorials and begin really understand what each code meant. Once I got a better understanding for the code, I then put together my first website using Notepad.

Now, a few years later, I use notepad for building my websites and use a combination of XHTML and CSS integration without the use of tables. It's really fun stuff!

Justin.

Try reading HTML, XHTML, and CSS Visual Quickstart Guide: 6th Edition by Elizabeth Castro (for how to code) and Designing with Web Standards, 2nd Edition by Jeffery Zeldman (for why).

I learned HTML by reading the 5th Edition of Liz's book, and the first edition of Zeldman's book.

Then I went to A List Apart, and finally Sitepoint.

I started back with geocities and tripod, etc, back then, I had AOL, so yeah hehe then I used Homesite but I didn't like it, then frontpage for a bit, but I didn't like it, then Netscape Editor, but didn't like it, then dreamweaver, but I didn't like it, eventually I ended up doing it in TopStyle. Now I'm learning CSS with videos, I seem to learn faster this way.

I began in 99 using Geocities, making a personal site on martial arts. I then began wondering how the pages were actually structured and stumbled across a site called Lissa Explains HTML. I learn't all I could from there and progressed to making sites with notepad/ftp etc, using free subdomains and free hosting. At the same time I was learning I had a buddy who began using Frontpage, he never got it in the end, and doesn't design sites any more.

Yep I was with Geocities for quite a while, I basically got started with pure coding when I found that my WYSIWYG editor couldn't do certain things, so I looked up some tutorials and started to learn.

3+ years exprience and I have learn't so much now, its all I seem to do! Design and Code!

Stop spamming your link!

Anyway, I used to be a member on a graphics forum for signatures. Then I just starting doing template then that made me want to code them.. to be honest, I never learned how to code with tables or using photoshop. I started using tableless HTML, then moved to XHTML because of the useless popular demand.
