Probably a question to the designers.

Also, this is not a review thread (not yet), but a voting one.
I'm not sure I'm understanding what's going on. Are you trying to replace the design I see right now?

If yes, I love that design & don't like either of the 2 options.

I know you wanted me to vote, but the "I don't like either" vote wasn't available.

That's the problem with polls LOL, you have to think of all the options the poll taker may want to go with.

Glad to see someone is taking over this forum. I remember this forum & used to like it. I didn't realize it was gone as I haven't been on it in ages.

Take care

Michelle

Both designs are gorgeous, but I did vote for [removed: campaigning talk].

Will there be a chance for feedback as well? I have a lot of thoughts on the design but don't want to abuse the poll.

Hi Michelle, thank you for your comments! Unfortunately, the present design no longer supports the long-term vision for TalkFreelance, and many of us feel that it needs to grow up.

The new design might not be for everyone, but I have gone through several designers and I think we found something that satisfies most people, which is key. From the feedback I received from a lot of folks who frequent the forum is that they want this change to take place.

Hi Tekime, there is an ongoing discussion specifically for suggestions and feedback on the new design:

Afternoon, all!
Good to see this place is still going, but sad to see things haven't changed!

I've voted for [removed: campaigning talk] design, but I don't understand why so much focus is being put on the marketplace still? And now tutorials too?

The internet has Flippa for website sales, ThemeForest for pre-made templates, and the Envato network or SmashingMag for tutorials..
What it needs is a decent business-orientated freelancing forum, with more life than the FSw board.

I'd also hugely recommend going for XenForo over vBulletin now.

I prefer the readability of the second design, I also think it would be easier to expand and generate revenue from. The first one may look slightly better though.

Also, I prefer the "boxed" version on dan's portfolio: http://danielhellier.com/portfolio/talkfreelance/

A marketplace is an essential part of this community, giving the ability for Internet-based professionals to profit from their skills. Just because there is Flippa or 99designs, doesn't mean there cannot be a quality alternative. It also directly addresses the "business-oriented" part of your comment.

Tutorials are actually not something we are focusing right now. The design assumes there is a section dedicated to tutorials, but it might as well be something else.

Bingo. Well said. Especially when this forum, by definition of it's own name, was intended to discuss freelance = ie earning a living on the internet. To remove a marketplace would be an incredibly bad decision, particularly when it's currently one of the most visited areas of the forum. I don't understand the opinions of wanting to remove it.

I am all for a professional marketplace where users don't troll each other and make money!

Everyone wins! \o/

BTW, I am using the default vBulletin skin as it looks the best to me being lighter colors.
