If your a fan of lightweight software I recommend LeapCMS. It's also a blast to make templates for, because all you need to know is XHTML and CSS. No PHP knowledge is needed. Currently I exclusively use it for my sites.

It is still in the early stages of development, he just released version 0.1.4 last month, but it is pretty powerful considering the actual code is contained within a single file.

Wordpress is quite something that I would recommend. It has other potentials too.

I recommend Joomla - very easy to use, offers lots of 3rd party extentions.

Recommend Drupal for unlimited functionality and scalability. Wordpress for simplicity and nice designs.

Cotonti is an open source project we started a year ago. It derived from Seditio which was focused on stability and performance mostly and then we started adding new features to it. It can be used as a general purpose CMS but best of all it suits experienced users/webmasters/developers as one of the easiest for them to customize.
