You're doesn't seem that great, I can get 12gb space and 150gb bandwidth for $21/month (which is what i'm doing) with all those features and more.

Now, not being ageist or anything....but you're 15, probably don't have alot of capital, obviously no staff or dedicated 24/7 support team. Not to mention you're in school and going into your most important year? How easy will it be to get into contact with you if something goes wrong?

I think if you want to make this work you need to try and make it targeted to a really specific audience. Otherwise you're going to be losing more than you're making.

Personally I think getting into the hosting business so late in the game is a really bad idea. Unless you have 1 or more of the following things you will not succeed, bar some kind of miracle.

- An AWESOME domain name. (eg. Hosting.com)
- Some kind of genius marketing idea.
- A small team of people that can provide 24/7 support

There is definitly money in hosting, everyone needs hosting. Every person on this forum probably has hosting. Hard part is convincing them why you're better, and the fact you're a 15 year old with limited cash and a busy schedule really wouldn't attract me.

A few years ago? Yeah… maybe. Now, a 15 year old that is looking to get into hosting with little or no financial backing… no, there isn’t any money in hosting.

When you say there isn't any money in hosting, how much are we actually talking? I think it's relative to the age of the person. Obviously How2freelance isn't planning on building a hosting empire, he has a VPS and wants to make a regular income with it and I think that can be achieved through abit of work.

In order to really make a living from hosting now would require alot more investment as Jon says.

Hmm I think its possible. Theres quite a few people out there in the real world that Im sure would be happy to help with the support and billing part, so that he's not 100% alone. But like you said, the income wouldn't be massive, unless you went crazy and brought 100 of the top servers - one huge electricity bill

Just because you have 100 of the top servers doesn’t mean you would make anymore money. In fact you would almost definitely loose money, a lot of money.

If you have 100 of the best servers you would be paying a lot for them… a hell of a lot. Because of the cost of the servers the price for each of the hosting packages you sell would need to reflect this, meaning each hosting account would be 10x harder to sell. You are up the creak without a paddle if you don’t have any clients.

Very interesting topic, this is. Actually most interesting topic I read for a while.
It's very hard to start a host, as you will need a lot of things to really become succesful.
I actually have a pretty nice hosting template, you might be interested. Or may not.
