all of their links at http://www.simplemachines.org/ are .php files... is this normal? lol

edit: well they are either doing maintenance or getting hacked cause their whole site is screwed up for me.

mason, .php is the extension used for PHP files which the majority of the web is coded in (for server side things such as forums). Most sites have .php extensions but hide them using mod_rewrite.

I suggest the new YaBB, it's a really nice forum software and by far better then PHPBB in my opinion.

Or you could go fr Joomla with th CB community extension
that way you have a nice site too

Yeah, i've been using MyBB lately and I must recommend it wayyyyyy over phpBB and SMF (and maybe even vB/IPB)
