Old  How do you usde layers properly?

Hello
I am desiging a site and i need to put something on top of another (search bar) I decided to use layers (or Divs maybe?) and whenever i preview it isnt' where i put it. It becomes off set and if i change my resolution it goes to a diffrent area. How do I get a layer to stay in the same spot?

there isnt' really and it isn't on the internet i will give you two screen shots.

Screen shot #1 shows the code highlighted and the text is to the right.

Screen shot #2 shows the preview of the page and it shows the text has moved to the left.

First off, dont use dreamweaver to code your site buddy.

Secondly I am not sure what you are trying to accomplish from that and if I did I'd probably not want to try to figure out the problem but recode the site from scratch.

So anyway what are you trying to accomplish? Putting the text on the background image? If so use simple CSS to put a background in the DIV and just put your text in it.

I'll try to be of more help once I actually figure out what you're trying to do but my best advice is ditch it and recode it the right way. (Yes in my world there is a wrong and right way...well theres just a wrong way and Dreamweaver, Frontpage and all WYSIWYG is wrong )

Hmm, use another editor that doesn't show you what your doing, like a preview. That never cross browser complies.

No, cross-browser compliant, works in all browsers. Dreamweaver doesn't do this automatically, which is probably why it is not going to the correct area. Try opening IE and seeing if it works there.

Try not using Absolute Positioning with your DIVs.
