Automated welcome in the Member Introductions
I am not sure if there is a hack for it however:
When someone posts a new thread in the member introductions forum a bot replies with a welcome message and some handy dandy links.
Just a suggestion.

It dpends what forum software you are using. I am pretty sure vBulletin has one of these, though I am not sure about the rest of them

I know vBulletin can have a bot post after every post in the forum, it could probally be easily customized to only act on one forum, or it may have the option.
It has many hacks, I would be suprised if something like this was not easily achievable.

Surely that looses the personal touch this forum has?

I was thinking it would be a little more consructive then the usualy "hi" or "welcome to the community". The follow up posts would contain the greetings however the original post would point out some links, rules etc.

Well, I dont think its a very bad idea... but such a post with links, rules etc could maybe be sent via pm instead

Not everybody wants to make an introduction thread, so why spam with useless posts

Maybe instead of a post it could be an automatic Private Message to the person with helpful links and the like?
