Old  Do you think it's possible to become rich on the Internet today?

I think the possibilities of becoming rich through the Internet become harder as time goes by, most of the ideas that gave rise to the dot com boom are now taken, done a million times and oversaturated.

Websites like ebay, google, amazon really pionered the Internet and have helped shape it's future. I'm just wondering if you think it's possible for anyone to actually become really succesful and rich through their website?

I think it's possible but it's not going to come through an average idea, you need something very unique, something that has mass appeal and everyday usage, something that's so wonderful that everyone instantly hears about it through their friends. A classic example of that would be freeipods.com.

Yes, I think it's possible. The easy (known) ideas have been taken but new ideas are popping up every day. (Social Networking, podCasting, etc.) Step 1 is to come up with a unique idea. Step 2 is to figure out a way to make money with it. During the Dot.Com bubble, everybody did step 1 and forgot to do step 2.

IMHO, etc.

Absolutely, moreso than ever - you just need the right content and advertisements. I've heard of site racking up anywhere from $20,000 a month and up!

Whilst I think it's still entirely possible I don't think there will be any more of the overnight millionaires that there were last decade. Too many people got too excited and threw too much money into too many projects without knowing too much about anything. There were VC's everywhere looking to 'invest' in any old project.

There were conversations like this going on at designers/developers:

"I need a Web site, I want to make a lot of money, here's $50k"
"Sure what's your product/service/angle?"
"Huh?"
"What will your site offer that others don't"
"Huh? I want a Web site - of course I'll become rich from it, just make me a site okay - it's what you do isn't it?"

Or something like that

Best of luck with your upcoming venture YoungCoder

Sure I think its possible, You just got to think of somthing catchy and have alot of guts to test if you can make it possible. The last week I have been writing down plans but none seem good to me so far, no millionaire plans though

I am currently going through a phase where i am facinated by templatemonster as a business at the top of its game. There are thousands of resellers for them and they sell loads, littering the net with all their templates
