Old  The inclusion of banners on TF.

Basically, Robson over here wants to add 468x60 banners to TF. Sure, he wants to make money I understand. BUT. what do you members think of this? Personally being the designer of TF, I feel its going to ruin it as I did not design it to house them. Now basically, just provide your opinion for or against them. And provide reasoning.

My personal view is, if you want a commercialised to death forum, go back to :sign:

On the other hand, I believe skyscrapers would work.

well at the end of the day its down to Rob what he choses to do but i agree with tarun hari on this one

if the banner was at the bottom the page it wouldn't be so bad, or as you said a skyscrapper would work nice in the coloumn to the left

EDIT:

some 'box' ads like what we have atm would work well too

That is correct, unfortunatly this community needs banners to survive. I have forked out $1,000+ on advertising, hosting and programming expenses. Don't think i will be sitting back and taking pure profit from these adverts, half of whatever is made will go directly back into this community for you guys. It's just the way it is....i cannot afford to keep this place running without some return.

I have contacted tarun and we are now working on a solution to make the adverts seem slightly more attractive. I appreciate your comments on this issue, banners won't make the forum worse, they can only help to further its success and build its future.

wow you've spent quite a bit, if the banners can help to compensate some of that and ofcourse help to improve TF at the same time then i hope you two can work something out for the design to fit them in

Something that would probably work well would be adding a hack to display ads in a more appropriate way. For example, non-registered visitors see advertisments on the top and bottom.
