I've been a fan of WYSIWYG since 1979 (on a typesetting terminal). When those terminals first came out, they cost $25,000.00. Of course, they used 8 1/2 inch floppies back then too. LOL. I use Dreamweaver, Expression Web and Notepad ++ now - it all depends on the job.

I always felt that using a text editor was a better way to learn HTML. These WYSIWYG editors may make it easier (unless if it's Frontpage), but you'll never really learn to understand and appreciate HTML unless if you just jump in and do it yourself.

The choice depends on the Individuals. When you are comfortable with the coding, you can use the hand coding. When you are not comfortable with the coding, you can use the WYSIWYG editors. They are very good for the quick designing. If you have the coding knowledge, then you can also edit the code according to your wish.

Sadly, I'm not aware of a single WYSIWYG editor that actually knows what it's doing. The last time I saw Dreamweaver code was a few years ago and they were still spitting out table layouts with font tags... I almost died from shock, for some reason I actually thought they might be evolving...

After a decade+ of hand-coding... I'm still hand coding.

You have much more control coding by hand, and it is not like it is hard to do.
