  Old  Pascal

Hi there,

I'm currently learning Pascal at college - it's just for the first year then hopefully it will move on to PHP next year.

I'm just wondering if anyone here knows much about Pascal, and what can be created with it. We are currently creating simple programs, for calculations mostly, but I’m wondering what else can be achieved through Pascal.

Thanks White Line, i'm actually enjoying learning it. I can't wait to go further in depth with the scripting of it. As I said, at the moment we are doing little calculations. Here is an example of one which I am was doing today:

Car purchase or credit purchase

For Cash the customer is given 15% discount on the cost price. The credit purchaser pays the cost price, pluss 40% over 36 instalments. Write a program to output:

For Cash Sales
Price xxxxxx
Discount xxxxxx
Finial Price xxxxxx

For Credit Sales
Price xxxxxx
Interest xxxxxx
Total Price xxxxxx
Monthly payment xxxxxx

I only worked on it for 5 minutes, so it isn't complete. I think i will download it here, at home so I can practice now and agian.

I was wondering if you know what else can be done? And if you have any examples you could show me?

pascal/ruby/python are all good languages to go in as a beginner, its as easy as basic without ruining your coding style. I regret doing basic before C++

I've never really done much of basic... at all. I have to say, I have never heard to Ruby or Python though, although I’m guessing they are similar to Pascal.

I dont actually have any examples I could show because its been a few years seen i've even touched Pascal but basically you know it outputs in a DOS window and it can do much any other language can do such as PHP but without the graphical interface and it being used on the Web, however i think there is a GUI (graphical user interface for pascal). But you can do alot of things I remember creating a client storage system where you could input data then it'd store it to a flat file.

Just think of some ideas then have a play around with it thats one of the easiest ways to learn.

Just downloaded it, and I’m working on that program, but I just used the code
Code:
 uses crt
which allows me to use colour etc... but it said I am missing a file crt.vpi. Do you know where I can obtain this?
