It's not going to be primarily forums, most of the traffic I estimate will be directed towards the blog. Traffic anywhere in the region of 200,000 unique's + per month.

I'd suggest a VPS or a dedicated. Very few shared hosting plans could handle that.

I had that feeling, which is why I was also looking at ThePlanet's dedicated range. At the moment I'm feeling around for recommendations on anything that could handle that sort of potential outreach and traffic on a daily basis

Thankya much so far Indy!

Meh, go for a cluster of servers. It's really the best plan if you're looking to grow huge (except your wallet might suffer a little bit).

If my wallet suffers any more the chances are I'll be arrested on cruelty charges!

I don't really expect the site growing to proportion of needing a server cluster any time soon after launch, but with the right attitude anything is possible!

Thanks for the 'food for thought' Peter

Fasthosts - some server limitations but rarely downtime and they have phone support.

Sounds like you'll need a dedi. I for sure wouldn't put what you want on anything less. I will recommend to you a good host that lease out dedi servers who I am with at the moment on MSN sometime. What do you expect the concurrent connections to be?

I haven't considered factors that in-depth Seb, basically I want something I know can handle a lot of traffic all of the time without going down or being tediously slow.

I can see myself renting a dedicated when the time is right

HostGator has some good reviews. Checkout www.hostjury.com for host reviews, and by looking it seems MediaTemple actually do suck.
