Old  Articles vs. Press Releases for TRAFFIC?

I'm wondering which is more effective for driving actual traffic to a site. My impression is that neither works particularly well for site traffic, but are useful for search engine ranking, credibility, and getting qualified leads. What have your experiences been?

Press releases are good for initial traffic and interest in your site. Articles are more long term marketing, they are good for search engine ranking and bringing people back but if you're looking to specifically drive traffic then a press release would be better.

Thanks for the responses... seems like this is a debatable topic for sure!

Press release yell "look at me."

Articles yell "look what i know."

Sure it's fun to check out the new guy a few times--but when you have a problem, don't you want to go where you think will help you?
