Old  Pricing Guideline-How to charge for an ad design?

Hi,

I am doing an ad design, I don't know how you guys price an ad / how do you guys charge for an 8x6 ad - both single & spread? Do you guys charge as per project basis or hourly. Can anyone provide me the pricing guideline? I prefer charge by per project basis myself, but open to any better idea. Please help. Thank you.

For graphic design I usually charge $40 an hour, so how ever long it takes you to make just charge by the hour

I prefer to charge per-project. But it all depends on the complexity of what you're doing. For a simple design, that wouldn't take much time to put together (no more than an hour or two) I'd start between $75-90 as a starting price, and the more complex they want it the more you charge. If you're just starting out, charging a lower price will probably bring in more customers, just don't get the reputation of being cheap xD

I charge per project. I will put down a price, lets say 50USD. I will then say 50% upfront and 50% when the project is finished. That way I don't get screwed over in the end when I finish the project.

8x6 - Never heard about that size before - SERIOUSLY

As for charging... Well depends per project and the ease with which the buyer can give money. I never let down my clients despite what they pay me, as seriously the money I earn from designing is just for pleasure. So I'll just suggest, ask your Buyer, and come to common grounds with what both of you can easily go with.

I recommend you break it down in aspects of how long it is going to take you to complete including (sketches, roughes, composition, final layout, meeting time, etc) and then change them hourly rate or figure how long your time x hour rate = flat rate. I prefer to charge by the hour.

Dont forget a contract with Deposit required. 50% down.
