  Old  finding something in a text file

I am trying to create a unique hit counter. I want to store all the IPs in a text file which I can do. The problem is how would I search for that IP in the file. I want something like

($ip has already been defined as the users ip)
PHP Code:
if($ip is found in "uips.txt"){
do
this
}else{
do
this

"is found in" would be the function I am looking for.

Any help is greatly appreciated!
