Old  Vbulletin experts - can this be done??

If any of you know anything about vB I'd appreciate your help.

I am putting together a forum and we want to sell local advertising. Of course ads for businesses in my town wont be relevant to folks in your town so here is my question. (Praying Robson knows)

Is it possible to target ads to a persons location. Example. Ads for my town Spokane only show up for those in the Spokane area. Ads for Denver only show for Denver folks, etc. I would imagine this would be a hack of some kind.

Any info or feedback is apprciated. If this would be possible it would be much easier to entice local advertisers. Thanks

I know it is fairly simple to target ads to specific countries, but I'm not sure how accurate on-the-fly IP traces are when you want the nearest town. Another alternative might be to get folks to sign up to your site and enter their town (or full address) as part of registration. Then it would be simple to code (or modify) an advertising manager to deliver ads according to the visitor's profile information (not necessarily just their town).

Yes, Salathe is right.
But I guess you can get some one to modify a script, but it will cost
Good luck!

Could have some sort of system when people register they put in where they live and ads come up for that area, don't know just a suggestion.

Good idea Wish, but the thing is alot of people might put incorrect information in but liekwise some might be using proxies. It's possible by IP targeting, because i've seen dating adverts on sites that say like "Find a woman now in YOURTOWN" and it has the correct town being displayed!
