How can hosts like www.bluehost.com offer the amount of space they advertise for such a low price PLUS a free domain name? I like hosting companies like www.brius.com and www.hostedfx.com but in terms of space and bandwidth, they do not even compete. Is there a scam within bluehost?

Simply put, they dont. If you come anywhere close to the limits they normally suspend you.

Read legal documents very attantively. That's very important to prevent yourself from any problems.

Terms and conditions or any website agreements do nothing to protect you from overselling.

The legal documents are intentionally vague, they just say excessive use. A client will think excessive use is defined as their advertised limits.

Its the perfect scam really, you can advertise anything, but give almost nothing. It would be illegal in most other businesses.

Most hosts oversell their services now to compete with the big dogs. Not really my cup of tea and many agree but its up to the company.

Oversold servers generally end up with angry customers / slow servers.
