Not be to annoying, but won't the most replied to threads often be those that are on the more "fun" and off-freelance-topic topics? Not necessarily always, but they tend to be the ones that get lots of replies.

How about having the admin choose topics to highlight, of only choose topics from certain forums to prevent the problem I identified above.

Current Topics which are highlighted:
===============================
[Mini Competition] Can you guess the number?

Design for retro gaming forum. Only PSD needed.

The Pope

What % of your gmail storage are you currently using?
=================================

Only one of those might really be worth highlighting really, if any.

There is always one....

Nah, it's a valid point I guess. Only why should it be just the real "freelance" topics that are displayed? This community is about having fun just as much as getting down and dirty with web development. The current system pulls the 4 threads with the most replies from the last 7 days, so tommorow a few of those will be cut off and new ones displayed. It's just a little feature to display the most talked about things on tf.

In any case Salathe, you can't build a community on pure web development..you need the fun topics and general chit chat.

Slight revision to the "highlighted discussion", a point Salathe made stuck in my head. Not so much the fact it was (non-freelance related subjects being displayed) but more it would have been the same ones everyday for 7 days. The hack has now been changed to simply show the latest 4 threads, slight text change also, looks better imo!

Thanks to trav

can i just throw in an idea here , have a highlighted discussions panel but why not set it up so it only shows the most replied to topics from certain forums (so then you can pick the freelance targeted forums) to cut out fun/general posts from being highlighted , meaning people will look more into the freelance side of the forums possibly.
