It's a wiki and it's a big map. I think wikimapia is very suiting.

Whats the advantage of using that over the Google Earth Map site which is faster and zooms in more?

Wrong on both counts. It works exactly at the same speed, and zooms in as much as Google Maps. It's using the Google Maps API which means it is simply Google Maps with extra functionality built on top. In this case, that extra functionality is that that the community can add places to the map - businesses etc. Heck, I'm so bored I just spend the last hour adding all the businesses I could think of in my area to it.

If it uses the Google API then surely Google could (and probably have) slowed it down deliberately. I notice a definite speed decrease when using WikiMapia.

Who needs Google Earth now
Slightly off-topic: has anyone managed to install it on Linux using WINE? I've heard it can be done.
