Ouch, that's some heavy resource usage. You're going to have to post a lot more details than that though if you want help. First off, what kind of server plan (shared hosting, virtual dedicated server, dedicated server, etc.) do you have the proxy running on? Which script are you using? How much traffic is the site getting?

  Old  phpproxy

We bought the script from someone, phpproxy and we are on a shared server.
The site get a few hundred hits a day.

Unfortunately you can't expect a proxy to run on a shared server, they are extremely resource intensive.

yes i agree with that you would probably be better going vps or even dedicated becuase proxys arent cheap to run but they are resource eaters.

You should be aware of the huge CPU resources that proxy site takes before making a proxy site.

Proxy site requires at mininum, a decent VPS

Your only fix is going to be getting a dedicated server.

I'm shocked at the flood of bad advice given so far. Please disregard most of the comments.

Can you people not read? He only receives a few hundred hits a day, there's no reason the resource usage should be this bad. Whilst I agree that he should use a dedicated server, or high end VPS bare minimum for proxy sites, that still doesn't help or explain the resource usage so far.

To the original poster: I'd scan your access_log and look for malformed URL's to see if it's causing phproxy to hang or loop.

I think we can all read just fine, however given the type of site it is, with just a few people using the proxy at a time it is going to eat a shared server alive. There is a particular reason why just about all shared hosts (that I have come across anyways) do not allow proxy sites.
