IE sucks but we all have to live with it. I came across many threads where users ask "who use IE now a days" and many discarded the same. But recently I came across a tool from statcounter which provide uses details of top 5 browser and to me it's amazing fact that IE shares 64% of popularity across the globe.

So your website compatibility with IE is a must as you may be loosing your potential prospects. Here is the resource link where you find global stats for 5 popular browsers.

You will see that IE is way ahead of every one.

I think we all know that IE is the most-used browser and most of the websites are IE-compatible ( it's even one of the main concern of every webmaster)

As amazing and totally shocking (erm... wha?) as those statistics are, you really need to focus on your own site and audience when making decisions (like to support older versions of a particular browser).

For example, here at TalkFreelance Firefox massively outnumbers IE.

Most of the PC users think IE as the only browser. Only the webmasters and development people prefer FireFox. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Agree, but here is what my stats says! Totally a different story of what TF has. lol.

Also as a PSD coder, I have to care for my clients (mostly web design companies) ask IE compatibility as first priority. If coding is is not at all IE compatible, i wont get a single job.

Only reason people still have IE is basically the fact it is installed when you buy a pc most people who buy a pc don't go and download firefox right away because they mostly don't care and just want to use the internet.

Wow, you have 64%.. Unlucky you :P

On TwinCircuits (my site), so far, I have had, wait for it, 3 IE users on my site. All were IE7 or higher, but this is not my point.

My point is that we should discard IE, otherwise the internet will never be able to successfully advance, like it should be doing.

Apple, Facebook, 37Signals, and several other companies are ditching support for IE6, as it is fast approaching 10 years old (if it isn't already), so we should not be using conditional comments to "enhance" their experience. We should be punishing them for wasting hours of unwanted coding time, and educating them about Firefox and Safari, and Opera, and Chrome

Now some replies:

@online - That's a helluva lot of web dev guys then, isn't it?
@salathe - That's cause we love ya, and... Screw it, I'm getting IE4 out, just to visit this site
@simplylegit - Yeah, Microsoft sucks.. Buy a Mac, guys

It is true, we shouldn't discard IE if you want to hold the '30%' users from IE.
