vBulletin is an awesome program on the front-end, but the back end is very duct-taped together and uses very poor coding practice.
|
Uhh! As a professional coder (who has been very highly experienced in vbulletin modifications), I can't disagree more. Vbulletin code is very elegantly put together. As a matter of fact it is a masterpiece (no I'm not in vb dev team). I can agree with you regarding vb2.x to a certain extent but 3.x is very nicely coded.
Back to subject: It is vbulletin for me because it is more advanced on its features and has the best hacking community in which you can find thousands of free modifications and add-ons for your board.

Most of the points mentioned previous:
Better Admin Panel by far.
Better coding.
More aesthetically pleasing at default.

Oh man, now we got the Logician, vB hacker of them all (for those of you who don't know, he's got some awesome stuff at vB.org check it out!)
I'll give you the fact that 3.x is MUCH better than 2.x, but in my argument, the fact that the system relies on global so often is the first giveaway that its not a system which was coded to the best of standards. It works, and it kicks so much ass, but I think it could've been done better.
Regards,
Patrick

I vote for Vb
I believe it's better because it looks more attractive. I also don't like what I pay for, an earlier version being distributed free!

This is a very good arguement... Both are pretty good - and everyone has put in a very good opinion. Continue voting people - at the moment:
vB - 18
Ipb - 7

vBulletin, mainly because the template system is soooooo easy to code, i prefer IPB for every thing else..
but vB gets my vote

Hmm, I prefer invisions default skin over vbulletins. But at the end of the day, you can skin both to look identical. (if you disagree with me on that one I'd be willing to take on a challenge to prove i'm correct )
Also, how does an earlier version being distributed for free make the product less likeable then vb?
