  Old  VPS Help

So I got myself a VPS yesterday, and I dove into terminal and started to configure it (Ubuntu Hardy). And I ran into problems doing so.

Problems being I have no freaking clue what I'm doing with Linux/Terminal.

I'm looking for someone to assist me in getting it web ready.

Thanks

I could give it a try. Not sure what type of errors you have but I could probably help you.

Regards

Lucas gave a shot at it.

The problem being that SliceHost only offers 64bit distros. And the various free control panels only work on 32bit.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Change host or request to get 32bit installed

They offer 64bit distributions to match the 64bit architecture they use. It makes sense. Slicehost is primarily for those who are very familiar with managing their own server environments. That's why they offer them for so relatively cheap, because they're a "no frills" service.

We can certainly help you manage the VPS if you'd wish, but I'd suggest that as you seem to have no previous server management experience, you're probably better off with a reseller package from a host that offers WHM access. The free control panels out there can't really hold a light to WHM, and you'd be getting around the same for what you pay at slicehost as it is.

Good luck.
