Editize (for the about page, easier to just make that on by hand ) + simple contact form + cutenews = what you need

Yeah screw paying money for a profolio script.

If you are pressed for time or just want to put something up, just manaully put the pages up. Unless you have some HUGE profolio it shouldn't be much of an issue.

The best alternative, I think, would be to write your own script. It will be a good learning experience and it really wouldn't be that hard. You don't need to know anything really advanced to make a script like this, review a PHP book or a few tutorials and you will be off in no time. Granted your not going to get an ideal perfect script your first time, but its all about trial and error, and learning the process. Then if you feel like you scripted yourself a nice little script and you would like others to give you some feedback or improve on it... you can just post it on sourceforge or hotscripts (hell even on these forums!).

just my 2c.

cheers

If portfolio script is not what you're looking for. I suggest you get php custom script or learn php.

I made my own "portfolio" script. Haven't gotten around to an actual admin panel yet, but I wanted 'display' to be simple and easy.

the simple display shows an image with some form of title and "view details" link. within the details you can see the timeaspect when the project took place, link to the place, a brief description of things and customer feedback. also made two sets of image-thumbs with option for large view available..

I'm also an observationist-fanatic, so i added in a small click counter to see what was looked at the most.

Still weeding out things as i get a free moment, but haven't had one of those in 6 months.. *sighs*

It wasn't difficult and i used *very* basic php to create it, which means it could be a good starter project when learning php =)

im actually about to make 1 for myself as a learning experience.

TBH I think its a good way to learn and when a client asks a question you can say I can do basic php/mysql and I know someone who can do it more advanced. My project will take a while due to the learning involved, but i could always mod it IF it works nicely for anyone.

It's a very simple thing to make if you want something stupidly basic.

The real question though is, why would you want one? I only use PHP to make everyday things easier (i.e. writing blogs/articles). If I was gonna add a new portfolio piece everyday, then it'd be a good idea. Since you won't be, the end doesn't justify the means.
