What I think about it

1. The gradients aren't good
2. All text that will be on the site such as OMG PREVIOUS ENTRY, 4th December 2007, blog blog, etc these all should have no AA.
3. That abstract render does not fit with the design it is just like there it doesn't go with the flow
4. You have a little blue rectangle on the corner of the navigation which is really random
5. You choice of fonts are not very good
6. For the header you shouldn't have a bevel
7. Bad choice of colors

What could you do to make it better?

1. Make better gradients
2. Better Text
3. Better colors

ouch man, not bad for being really new, but ouch. here's some constructive critisism.

read up a bit on how to design using a grid. also try to keep things minimalistic, especially at first. try to plot things out on paper before opening photoshop. make sure it looks good to the eyes.

also, design around the content. it's all about usability and ease of use. if you don't have any content then why are you making a website?

it's great that you're diving into the world of web design man, it really is fun. it's all a learning experience, so enjoy every minute of it.

Great crit, really helped!

So what i'm going to do is don't work with gradients just yet, start with block colours and maybe add highlights in places and keep the abstract seperate from the whole thing.

I'm still poking around in the world of professional design - it's hella different to just making effects and your focal look good. It's also nice to be learning something new because there's only so much you can do with making signatures in forums.

Thanks again guys!

great attitude man, you the most important thing down, and that's being able to take some criticism without getting all defensive. sounds like a good place to start with all the stuff you listed there. be sure to update us here with what you've got going on
