What I meant was if it wasnt used in registration could it be set to have just on entry field? I am thinking of its use as just a handy utility for checking password strentgh, not necessarily related to signing up for anything

I see, well of course.
Only abit of the code would need adjusting,
I'll try tomorrow.

I'd like to see this placed more as an 'on-demand' addition to a form rather than always being included. Simply because it's not adding any functionality, it's just a handy little helper program.
Personally, I'd have gone the JavaScript route myself. That saves multiple server-client round trips, would provide pretty much instantaneous feedback, is much more easy to stick into existing forms, don't require iframes... the list goes on. All that is being done are simple RegExp (and string length) checks which are just as simple to do in JS as PHP.
That said, well done for getting this out there and to all those who use it, I'm sure it will be helpful.

Ok well I've been working on an update:
www.checkyourpass.com
Improvements include:
Allows all characters,
Checks for common dictionary words (out of about 1000 words).

Yum, that's nice. Certainly makes signups look a lot better imo.
Good work // +rep (if we had reps)
