I can't really say anything which everyone else has said, but I would just like to say that a pretty nice site to look at layouts would be csszengarden.com

Oh, maybe add browser friendly as well? I mean that if the coding is only applicable to firefox, at least make it degrade well when viewed on IE (not messing up the entire flow of the site).

Dieter Rams says good design is:

1. Innovative
2. Makes a product useful
3. Aesthetic
4. Helps us to understand a product
5. Unobtrusive
6. Honest
7. Durable
8. Consequent to the last detail
9. Concerned with the environment
10. As little design as possible

I believe that in order for a design to be the "best" it needs to be 4-yr old or 90-yr old tested. I think that it should give a clear message, not just information but an ending to the story. It should also give "links" to other parts of the story if the reader wants/needs it. Easy to navigate, clear and to the point is my recipe. It does in fact help if it is visually stimulating or interactive.

its just the beauty, it's layout, color combination and proper sizing of all things basically! But they beauty's always in the eye of the beholder so i dont know. it really depends on your flavour.

A great design/web product, to me, is simply something that succeeds in its objectives. It must present the content it contains in an accessible and engaging way. A 'design' is responsible for captivating the audience but it isnt responsible for keeping hold of them. Content is.

I believe in something that blends in with color. For example for WOW players theres www.warcraftempire.com I think its clean, crisp and easy to navigate.

For proxy website theres www.proxagon.com I think it uses a nice color. I like orange. I think orange stands out nicely. Not to many ads. NO Pop-ups thank Goodness.

www.Talkfreelance uses orange very nice and eye catchy. Easy to navigate.

Im sure theres lots out there. Depends what your building and what you have to offer.

I think brown and orange is the new fresh look of 2008. Thats my opinion and thats why I chose those sites.
