What do you mean Dreamweaver for design? Dreamweaver is a WYSIWYG editor, you can do it in either view and all your doing is editing the code.

I don't see why people use NotePad except for "bragging" rights. I find it easier when Dreamweaver closes your tags and so forth.
Well, i suppose i was referring more to if you do any PHP and so-on. But on a personal note i do pretty much use notepad for all coding and DW for design

I used to always use Notepad for coding, now i use Dreamweaver. It's just better... The only thing i use it for is the colour coding. It makes things much eaiser to see and understand.

I'm with Garrett. I find Dreamweaver is easier to use for coding. Especially, the feature of automatically closing tags. And I'm a relatively recent convert to the program. Up until then I coded in Notepad.

And speaking of automatically closing tags, you can actually control that behavior. So it's not like it closes tags when you don't want them closed.

Dreamweaver 8 closes the most recent tag opened, I think that's what you'd want.

I've started using Notepad++ after hearing all the people going on about it here. I find it alot better to be honest as when I'm using DW I tend to go into the design mode because the code looks 'scarey' but with notepad I have no other option

NotePad++, EditPlus, etc. They are all good for coding. As well as vi if you are on a *nix system.

Everyone that is complaining about DW closing tags... you do realize you can turn that off right?

jared: I'm aware, but if I have to change options to get me to use it, I'm not going to bother.

So if everything doesn't suit you "out of the box" then you just don't use it? I am picky, I tweak everything to my specifications.

To each his own I suppose, eh?

cheers

Well, I mean when I can get something that is easy to use, and doesn't need configuration, I'd choose the easier one over anything almost.

However, if all the other coding programs required configuration also, I wouldn't mind.

Dreamweaver 8 is good, it closes tags automatically, Dreamweaver mx 2004 however, is a pain in the **** :P
