  Old  .eu domains

The market is basically untouched with loads of 4-letter/single-word domains available.

Would it be worth investing in some?

you need to have a registered company in the eu to purchase an eu domain, thats why there are still 3 letters avalible.

Oh... They're being sold on GoDaddy, so I presumed they were available to the public.

EDIT: Just found out, they're available to the public on the 07/04/06!

I think alot of people will have already got the .eu domains on backorder, usually it's very hard for your average joe to grab any decent domains.
