  Old  Buying a mac!

Hello hardware discussion!

I've recently made the decision that I'm going to invest in a mac. I have about £1500 to spend... What's my best bet?

To not buy a mac! Why the decision to get a mac anyways? Just curious.

Old  Building my next PC. Suggestions needed.

Hi,

I'm about to build my next PC as my present one is 3 years old.

Requirements.

1. I'm always trying to get the best value for money.
2. Although I'm not hardcore gamer I wouldn't mind if it could run at decent fps.
3. I might add another graphics card at some point in the future so mobo should be fine with this.
4. The PC should last for next 3 years with possible updates [memory, graphics card, CPU].
5. See point 1. I'm not willing to burn money on things that are not essential to achieve the above.

Shopping at Dabs. Basic specs

MSI S775 nForce 650i SLI DDR2 ATX AL eitther this or Platinum version
Intel Core 2 Duo E4400 2GHz Socket 775 800FSB 2MB
Dabs Value NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GS 256MB DDR3 PCI-E DVI
Memory - 1GB. Not sure which one to choose though.

Suggestions are more than welcome.

thanks!

Definitely the Macbook Pro, I've had mine for about 4 years and still going well. What I've realized is that the only big difference between the Macbook Pro and the iMac is the screen size. They both have very similar Processors, RAM and Graphics Cards.

At the moment a Macbook Pro (15.4") is at £1299 with 2.53GHz Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM and a GeForce 9400m graphics card. Leaving you £200 under the budget for maybe an additional screen/tablet/good night out.

Be prepared for lots of people complaining about how you shouldn't buy a mac. At the end of the day it's got nothing to do about who's hardwares the best, just what you feel comfortable using.

If you do buy one and need any help feel free to ask me.

Adam

I've never had a mac and I've only used them once outside of a retail store. However, web development is a perfect example of how two different things may look different and function differently and yet they can both be equally great and perform many different tasks. If I ever have enough money to play with and have a decent Windows based machine already, then I would love to invest in purchasing a Mac.

After watching the keynotes from the Apple WWDC, I must admit that the MacBook Pro has come a long way and looks absolutely phenomenal! However, I currently have my eye on the iPhone 3GS.

I'm with trev, why do you feel the need to buy a mac? Apple simply sells overpriced, look good hardware. You can buy a cheaper PC instead and invest in a more comfortable keyboard with an extra monitor or two.

you don't pay the hardware but the combo hardware + OS that has been made for this specific hardware
and it changes everything

Let's not start -another- Mac vs PC debate. It's been done to death and quite frankly, is now boring.

It really is a better option not to buy a mac right now. All the new laptops have crap screens in them, not to mention other things wrong in them. Just wait for revision two and snatch one if you're really set on a mac, everything is usually fixed by then.

Though in my opinion, I prefer PCs. I've custom built my desktop and its not had one fault since the build day. No software bugs even. Even though macs seem to be the norm in the graphic/web deisgn world PCs are better suited for it in my opinion :P .
