Extremely Hot

I got a new laptop recently. Its a wonderful laptop but the video card is extremely hot. It has a fan on it that works fine but it is a laptop and is always on my lap. If it doesnt vent for a few minutes it overheats and shuts down luckily that has only happened twice in the months I have had it. Is there any suggestions on how to make this a bit cooler?

Wow what country do you live in? Really the new intel 45nm based CPU's shouldn't overheat at all. Most likely it sounds like you have dust in your laptop or you may be blocking the ventilation hole/s. Or do you have a 7200rpm hard drive in it? That may also be a issue

You know.. I'm sure I saw refrigerating cards somewhere for laptops.

You need to place them under the laptop, they got like 6 coolers and they "cool" down the laptop...

Try searching in eBay, they're quite cheap if I'm not wrong

What kind of laptop is it? Generally, this shouldn't happen. Manufacturers usually have some kind of system to keep all parts of the laptop relatively cool. If it is overheating so much that it shuts down, there could likely be a problem. Also, are you using Vista?

Sounds like you need one of these things.
Notebook Cooler

Maybe not this specific product, but there are several on the market. They just plug into a USB port and seem to work fairly well. I have sold something similar at a previous job and never had any complaints.

Notebook Cooler, in my experience probably the biggest waste of money ever. There is no reason why your laptop should over heat. If it is, it is likely that something is not working correctly causing it to overheat.

Check with the manufacturer that you can dismantle the unit. Clean everything with compressed air and ensure any fans inside are working. If the problem persists, take it back?

Some laptop , even if well working , gets really hot and a cooller can be useful

Yeah, I would advise you to invest in a Notebook Cooler.
My last laptop fried itself because it overheated lol... so it is something to be worried about :P

Yes, but my point is that a manufacturing company would not ship a product that will overheat.

If it over heats => Lawsuit. Cpt. Puglet is right.
