Make sure your router has the latest firmware.

Secondly, I've noticed BitTorrent causes this type of problem. If you use BitTorrent, then try limiting the number of connections that your software uses. Also limit your upload and download speeds.

I was using a $40 D-Link router at one point and got so sick of it getting tied up, so one day I went out and bought a $175 D-Link router which performs MUCH better.

I still need to restart my router every now and then, but not once a day like I had to do with the $40 router.

I don't think there's a complete solution to your problem. It's a combination of software and hardware design.

Issues like this can be down to a few factors on the networking, all typically stemming from the router. When I used to do networking passionately a few years back, issues like this were usually caused by the way routers shuffle IPs around to other nodes from time-to-time, namely, DHCP.

Nope, Orcon. I will never use Telecom, they are the biggest thieves in our country (after IRD and Petrol Co's)
