Old  I need help- advice as a freelancer

Hey guys newbie to the forum -

So I'm actually a freelance photographer who does events through word of mouth referrals. I haven't really developed the business a whole lot. I also do some freelance user interface and experience designing. My day job is a freelance consultant as a DBA for startup businesses.

So i was wondering is how do you find accountants that actually understand our industry and can help me organize my self the best / on taxes.

What do you look for?

Unless you are a large business you should be able to do it yourself. I go to HR block to get my taxes done but thats really it. I use Quickbooks for my accounting.

Yes you can do much of it yourself, but if you want to speak to someone, try the local branch of an appropriate professional society. If you're in an urban area they may have a solo practitioner advisory.

I have had good luck finding one-off and ongoing assistance through the Freelancers Union --they maintain a directory of members and there's a place where you might post a query, if not an actual job.
