  Old  SEO Question

Hi guys,
I hope someone can shed some light on an SEO aspect that came up last week. I've got someone doing some work on the SEO on my site. I just don't have the required time and resources to do it myself any longer.
I was ranking pretty well for many many of my keywords. I handed this project over to another person to handle about 3 weeks ago. All of a sudden i've dropped off of Google's radar entirely, and this is obviously affecting the amount of enquiries and such that I should be receiving.

Anyhoo, when I chatted with her about it, this was her response:

It's funny that you mention the keywords moving backward and
being worried about it, because I've been working on a couple of JVs with
some other SEO experts and in the past couple of days I've had the
conversation with both of them where we've discussed the Google dance and
how they (and I) get excited when a site temporarily moves backward in the
rankings, because we know it means Google is paying attention to the site
and the rankings will come back higher than before in a few weeks.

What made me smile is that right before I opened this email from you, I
was just responding to an email from one of my potential JV partners where
I was telling him I was going to develop a form letter to send out to
people about the Google dance, because I get asked about it so much. Then,
I opened your email and there was the Google dance question (or concern,
rather). It was just kind of coincidental that I'd just been emailing
someone else about it.

Anyway, no, there's nothing to worry about. Nearly every website I work
with experiences a temporary drop in rankings, sometimes for as much as a
month, while Google finds and indexes the new back links. It's called the
Google dance and it's perfectly normal for this point in a campaign. In
fact, you're about at the point where you should be coming out of it soon,
maybe in the next couple of weeks. Then, you should see an improvement in
your rankings, and it will be a steady climb to page 1 then.
I need to know from the "experts" on this forum - is this total BS or is there some value in what was said?
My boyfriend is an SEO expert in his field (online casino's), and he has said he knows nothing about that.. So now i'm really really concerned!

Anyone shed light on this?

I am not an expert but upon researching the net about Google Dance, it seems it is an old Tool from Google. It was used by Google last 2002 and I am not sure if it still relevant today.

Thanks for your response..
From what I understand, the "Google Dance" is when it jumps up and down a few spots, or a few pages etc. I've never known it to go down SO far, and stay down for so long.

This depends on how long your site has been up, but in general, I don't buy the explanation on the face of it. I'd be asking for specifics in what she's done SEO-wise since taking on this project. Don't let her "dance" around the answer.

I'm going to half agree with what she said. As i monitor all the seo for my clients sites your rankings are going to fluctuate. But the fact that your site has been dropped off the radar then something is wrong. Sometimes some of my KW (key words) fluctuate +/- 20 positions depending on competition. For my website my KW, affordable web design houston, one week will be at 75 and the next week 100+ and i have not touched anything on my site besides twitter posts and the once a week blog post. Being that my domain is still a "baby" less than a year old... less than 6 months I expect there to be some major fluctuations but if your site has been established for a few years and hasnt changes much over the years then you should not be fluctuating much MAYBE +/- 10 spots but nothing more (which equals a 1 page difference) if you were on the first page then you should go no lower than the second page. I would take a look into it because you could be dealing with someone who claims they know SEO jut because they know how to use title tags, meta, headers, and alts, but they dont know how to maintain the rankings.

Thank you all for your messages. I have asked her to get a report to me asap so that I can see what she has been doing etc. I have taken readings of my own now to see which position keywords are in, and I will keep track of them myself..

1. Always or at least monthly change your website keywords positioning
2. Put h1-h4 tags on your website
3. Bold or underline your keywords and again change things on a regularly basis
4. For script users make your URLS search engine friendly

I am agreed with krymson because it is my personal experience that if your are indulge in key words stuffing, google will no longer accept these find of stuffing. My personal K W rankings drop when i was using my key words too much.

I am afraid I have to agree with this. Google dance really only affects new websites when they add a lot of backlinks in a short period of time. If your website is a few years old you should be immune from the dance.
Try and find out what backlinking methods your "expert" is using.
