Old  What do you guys think of the Google Chrome OS situation?

Meant to be available for purchase sometime mid 2010 - can't see any other threads with this so thought i'd make one.

So they are making their own operating system... will Google own the world one day?

Google is weird. They like buying up things, and they let them die. They have had some awesome ideas, develop them, and let them die.

Google Chrome browser doesn't get too much use. I think like less than 9% of people use it.

I think google needs to work on making their main services better and more effective.

Google is roiling in cash and showing no signs of going poor, so I doubt any of us can really critique their business stragety. When google buys a product and lets it die they probably realized it wasn't worth it, better to cut your losses than continue in optimistic ignorance. Also, they might buy and let die to get rid of a product that could indirectly hurt them.

The way we search for things is surely evolving. They need to notice this, even if they are rolling in the dough.

How is it evolving? I haven't seen too much change, you type in words and get results.

I'd say the fact google have kept it pretty oldschool and not tarted up their original ideologies of a simple search engine is the backbone of their success Nick .

So many sites have changed and added so many new features and functions that google is the only one that is still standing out; and hasnt really changed anything that made it great whilst other sites like facebook fall over each other to get the '1up's' on rivals. And the features they have added (gmail, google earth etc) are damn incredible to say the least.

With an ugly ass drop shadow effect logo and a box to type what you need, they are still holding it down simple style I am looking forward to seeing how they pull an OS off, if their previous ventures are anything to go by then I'd say we're in for something decent.

No, it was probably they were the first in the game.

Has anyone read what Mark from facebook see's in the future? Who would have ever thought IBM would fall so low on the chain?

IBM decided to go for less public markets, their server solutions are some of the best in existence for certain business needs (but cost a fortune). While out of the consumer light, they are doing fairly well too.

I just hope the OS is better than Windows 7. Microsoft would definitely smudge their white y-fronts
