Why not hand code it yourself and avoid having to go through "fixing" unstable coding.

Cause you don't have to fix something that isn't broken to start with.

Justin.

When I hand code, it's like drawing a picture.

I just picture the layout in my head.. think back for a moment, and then type everything down.. it doesnt take long at all. Probably 5 minutes or less?

Dreamweaver can code complaint tableless css, but again it is all down to the user.
uhh, dw doesn't code, it makes coding easier.

This is the crap that comes out of imageready.......
imageready is hardly considered an html editor.

I've noticed from my experience with Dreamweaver, as is any other editor, adds un-necessary coding to the documents.
it all depends on your settings. i'm not even sure what add-ons people are talking about as i've never had issues with such a thing. dw has the little help pop-ups for coding, but it doesn't add anything that you don't tell it to.

Does GoLive help with CSS?
not a personal preference, or maybe, but no, golive is an inferior html editor which i compare to frontpage. i've used it and prefer dw.

Even though the code is not stable isn't it faster to fix it up than to do it from scratch?
possibly, depends on how bad the code is...

Because most people in the business don't have the money to...
if it's a business, you should have the finances to purchase professional software.

think back for a moment, and then type everything down...
depends on your typing skills

to be honest, dw is just like any software, it's the user that makes it effective or a waste. there are benefits to using software as opposed to a simple text editor. but, it all depends on developer preference and convenience. as a professional, i think of it as investing in something that will bring a benefit to my clients in turn benefiting my business.

i have nothing against text editors or individuals who prefer to hand-code. if that's what they prefer, than by all means do it. with my background in design and growing knowledge of standards-based development, i can use dw efficiently and effectively.

Problem solving usually takes longer to get your head around as it's another mental skill.

When you know what you're doing, you're just using your own knowledge.

Possibly, but that depends on your typing skills and knowledge of the programming languages in which you are coding.

Dreamweaver does NOT produce standard compliant tableless code. If you are using the feature where it's basically an HTML editor instead of a WYSIWYG then my thoughts are ok well I can do the same thing with Notepad or any other free text editor. Sure there is color but so does Notepad 2 and a lot of other editors that are...free. The only feature I see that can speed of the process is where you start typing the code and a dropdown of choices comes up but to me it saves maybe 1/1000000 of a second which I can save by opening the Notepad application instead of loading all of dreamweaver for a few changes in code.

So with that said I hand code in Notepad 2 for a few reasons..

-I have control over the code (why I dont use WYSIWYG)
-It's free (why I don't use Dreamweaver, Go Live, etc..)
-Way faster loading (again why I don't use Dreamweaver, Go Live, etc..)

i handcode because the coding is much neater and gives the site an easier structure.

i user dreamweaver but i use the codeview cuz its easier for me with the color coding and if i make a mistake it points it out, etc.

One thing I did find when I was researching Dreamweaver, was that when designing with tableless css the design view stuffs the layouts up. It wasn't showing me what was really happening if I was previewing in a browser.

I handcode because I prefer having an intimate knowledge of exactly how the site works so i know exactly where to go if there's a problem, because I wrote every line of code myself. With Dreamweaver all I have an intimate knowledge of is some boxes on the screen.
