 Advantages of xhtml?
Forgive me for asking this, but what exactly is the advantage of xhtml over html? Would it be better to have a webpage coded in xhtml if for example, I didn't see the immediate advantage in it? Sometimes when I hire coders I ask them for "xhtml valid" but I really don't know why I am...perhaps because it's the latest buzz word for me!

I'd like to know this myself, what benifits it actually gives to a standard page. Whenever i've hired people to do coding for me i have never really been fussed how it's been done aslong as it works in ALL major browsers, as to me thats always been the most important thing.

I think it makes it easier for the search engines to have your website or something, i ain't completely sure.
All i know at the moment is that XHTML is like the newest version of HTML, so instead of HTML 5.0 they just use XHTML 1.0

Doesn't it just ensure that it is cross-compatible with all browsers and platforms? xhtml is compatible with mobiles, PDA's, normal browsers - or that's what I thought?

Cross browser compatibility, standards compliant (gives respect among web standards nerds) And, im not sure but does it ensure better accesibility for un-equaly abled people?

XHTML has more longevity than HTML I'd presume.
In the (far) future HTML could be forgotten, and browsers are more focussed on XHTML.

XHTML is a stricter and cleaner version of HTML. - taken from W3schools.
It will last longer, is more accesible (mostly for pda's etc.), and search engines love it.

Semantic XHTML code is good for all...  -> search engines, PDA browsers, screen readers (more accessible). But valid xhtml is not equal semantic. Tables should be used to present tabular data only, not to build layout's construction. Other thing is that XHTML is a way from html to xml. So in the future we will build layout with own DTD(s) and more.
