There are many sites from which you may learn much from. w3schools.com is a good resource but I'd suggest you get a book and learn from that. It all depends on your preferred method of learning but I believe a book is better for novices. Once you're comfortable with HTML begin learning from the internet. Then, you can learn just about anything without necessarily purchasing a book. It all depends on you. Google is our best friend!

There are many online site to learn HTML. W3School.com is the best online site to learn HTML. You can also visit the site myhtmltutorials.com/line.html.
Not only online tutorial makes you expert in HTML but also you have to follow some good writer book.

http://www.w3schools.com is the best website to begin. You should begin with it.

if you don't mind reading then www.w3schools.com or any website like this is better. But i were you i would rather prefer to learn HTML through video tutorials. youtube can become a great tool for your query.

If you find it difficult flicking back and forth on screen between tutorials and your learning projects, you might find a 'real' book useful.

this is the best beginners HTML & CSS book I've found in my 15 years as a web designer: http://www.amazon.com/dp/1118008189/

hope this helps!
