Heres a thought how about the staff pick the member of the month. They get to really see who deserves it. You have members that just signed up and saying "yea he deserves it" but how do they know?

If non of the other member deserves the badge more than WildHoney then it's going to be WildHoney again. Actually, it's not one person opinion, it's the majority.

The staff do pick the member of the month, the members make the nominations. Obviously when there is outstanding support for 1 member that member is likely to win.

Actually you dont, There is a fine line with actually picking them. Basically how it works is that once you see 20 people vote for the same person you say "Oh that person is the motm" You should also think who would be the better choice.

No we do actually decide who to give it too but think about it - if 20 people vote for one person there is probably a reason and that reason is because they probably deserve it. In the case of Wildhoney, he's got a lot of votes because he's been a great member and when it comes to the staff vote I'll be voting for him because to me he's stood out more than any other member

Then give us suggestions on how to make it better, don't just say our method is bad without backing it up with new ideas. When 20 people say one persons name, like Bazza said, they deserve it. But if it's nearly even, then yes, the staff will make a decision.
