Erm no it says "Myspace -a place for friends" not "Myspace - Advertise to emos".
People have learnt to use it as a marketing tool, but I don't think it was intended to be.

Obviously not, but I am pretty sure CVPR wasn’t boasting about how many “friends” he had made, rather how many people he could now advertise to.
People in this thread saying that myspace is totally pointless and for losers are way off.

Exactly, but the account isn't mine - I'm promoting it for my sites until I reach 9,000 friends, then I have to give it to my client.

Depends really who your target audience, it's great if you get lots of traffic, but if they are all from the wrong people then..

150 or so, all people I know or bands I've seen. I just use it to keep in touch with people, because not all of my friends check their email, but they always check their myspace every five minutes.

Not everyone can make websites. Actually not many have those skills. Myspace lets the average person create a webspace that they can customize to their liking.
Granted, most pages are hideously designed and filled with pointless crap like glittery text and "What Friends character are you?" Sure it's immature and it shows the collective IQ of the world, but who cares... That's why it appeals to the masses.

Why does it suck? Because it got so much attention?

Like I said on page1, I don't use myspace and never will.
However, the fact of the matter is...
Myspace may be seem useless and corny but, if used correctly, could get a target audience directed toward your site much easier than using other advertising methods. If you boast about having alot of friends because you think it makes you look cool, you are in fact a loser. If you boast about the fact you have alot of online friends to give your site traffic, then go for it.
That is what everyone has said back and forth here.
