From what I've heard sig advertising is the cheapest and one of the best ways to advertise.

I haven't made a single sale from signatures. But then I am only really using them for boosting my link popularity and SE rankings.
Thats what should be the main motive behind signatures - trust me it works

I have picked up quite a few clients that clicked thru my sig. I like to keep it updated and fresh so people that see it all the time don't get used to the same old thing. If you are running any kind of service or business and you are not using a sig, I feel you are short changing yourself

They're really important. You will get about 10% more visitors.

Is that a fact? What if you're already getting 1 million unique visits per day?

i've found that replying to a "topical" thread in a forum is likely to get more visitors via signatures too.
