I use a variety of ad networks on my site, ranging from CPM (Burst Media, Fastclick, Casale Media) to CPC (AdSense), but I try to limit the amount of advertising so it doesn't detract from the site.
Although it is noble to make a site which loses money, I'm a university student in the UK, which makes me pretty skint. I couldn't actually afford to run a site which lost a lot of money. I don't mind if they just break even though.
Do some posting of your own! A common mistake people make is to start a forum adn expect conversations to start themselves.
Start a thread on a controversial subject that a lot of people might disagree with. You'd be suprised how many people will sign up to your forums just to disagree with you. Basic human psych 101
Thats so true, Like I did a story about kiddie hosts on my site and I made the most of adsense ever on that story with so many visits and people swearing
